China, the land of festival is preserving its time-honored more than 5,000 years history. It is the reflection of profound Chinese culture. There are numerous festivals the Chinese people observe throughout the year, each of them bearing its own significance, celebration form and features.
After discovering, people with get acquainted with the culture of this mysterious land. These festivals are ranging from Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn Day, lantern Festival to Dragon Festival.

Spring Festival:-

Spring Festival is one of the most popular and ceremonious festivals in China. Generally it is held from the first day to the fifteenth day from the first month in the lunar calendar. Like America’s Christmas, Spring Festival has immense importance in China. People start the festival preparation about one month ahead such as shopping, cleaning houses and preparing delicious storable dishes. During the festival time, the Chinese people hang red lanterns and couplets on the doors for decoration, play firecrackers and enjoy the entire atmosphere in the festive mood.

Another important aspect of this festival is family reunion. The people, who stay far away from their family, come back home for the family reunion and thoroughly enjoy the appetizing reunion dinner together. On this festival’s first day, the children usually dress up with new clothes and go to visit for the New Year. As this is traditional festival of China, they follow some strict rules during the festival. They avoid any kind of unlucky behavior and words. For recreation activities of this festival, traditional Dragon Dance and Lion Dance are performed.

Mid-Autumn Day:-

Another important Chinese festival is the Mid-Autumn Festival. Every year in lunar calendar, the festival is held on the 15th August. On this day, the full moon appears which symbolizes reunion which is the reason behind the other name of this festival as Reunion Festival. The tradition of the festival has started in the ancient Zhou dynasty. By observing several rituals such as moon worship, appreciating the moon and eating moon-cake, the festival has been celebrated.

Lantern Festival:-

The Lantern festival which is also known as Yuanxiao Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in the Chinese calendar. It is the ending of the Spring Festival. During the festival, attractive lanterns of different shapes are displayed. To follow this festival, uncountable visitors around the glove gather. With the lantern, spectacular fireworks would be displayed. With each lantern various riddles are asked which adds as the additional recreation activities. Moreover, different folk dances such as Lion Dance as well as Walking on the Stilts are performed during this festival. As food is the unavoidable part of any festival, the Chinese people usually eat small ball-shaped sweet dumpling also known as Yuanxiao in China.

Dragon Boat Festival:-

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Duanwu Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month. As this is another traditional Chinese festival, people observe the day by racing on the dragon boats, eating triangle shaped rice dumpling and making fragrant handicrafts. The dragon boat competition is the most popular fun activity during this festival, especially in the South China.
